Day 44
We had planned today quite well, and the first stop was going to be the Kartchner Caverns National park, which is a quite recent discovery of probably one of the best preserved caves in America and maybe even the world. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take anything in with us, so no photos, but I found some pictures on the web to put up to give you an idea. It was really good and well preserved. After that we headed towards “The Thing” something that we had seen advertised on the side of the freeway for miles and as it was en-route we stopped. It was probably the biggest pile of crap thrown together in a few rooms and put on display. The only thing that made it OK was it only cost a dollar
to go in. “The Thing” itself was supposedly a corpse of someone and maybe even a child but it all looked a bit fake. We then aimed towards another national park BUT we kind of went round in circles and after some 200 miles found ourselves out of time and only 20 miles from where we set off this morning. So we checked into a hotel in a town called Bisbee. The hotel was an original type building and was probably built in the 1800’s and retained a lot of its fixtures and fixings. It was OK and we popped next door to a bar for a few beers before what turned out to be a fantastic and cheap meal. After that we played shuffleboard in another bar very entertaining for the locals. A good but tiring day.
